Annie Lucille Suggs

Annie Suggs Obituary

Annie “Lucille” Suggs was born September 24, 1940, and departed this earthly life Saturday, October 4, 2025.  Annie was born in Russellville, Alabama to Tillman “Till” Suggs and Carrie Graham Suggs.

Annie graduated from Reedtown High School, Russellville, AL and completed her undergraduate and graduate degrees at Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University, Normal, AL.  Annie also attended University of North  Alabama and received her Education Development Specialist (Eds) degree. Annie retired as a Counselor from Central High School, Florence, AL.  Annie was an educator for several schools throughout the North Alabama area, retired member (27 years)  of the National Education Association and Alabama Education Association; and a lifetime member of Alabama A&M University Alumni.  The love for children/students continued after retirement as she was a Testing Procter for middle and high school students and assisted many with completing college and financial applications. 

Annie’s involvement during her long life included being on the Board of Directors for Lauderdale County Teachers Credit Union and served as the Secretary of the Board.  She volunteered her time at Helen Keller Hospital prior to Covid. Annie was known for her love of flowers and her impressive gardening skills, as well as baking (especially pound cakes) and canning. 

At an early age, Annie accepted Christ as her personal Savior and remained faithful and involved until death.  Annie’s involvement as an active member of First Missionary Baptist Church, College Avenue included:  Treasurer, where she served on the Finance Committee, and as a very faithful and dedicated worker and several other duties to make sure everything was done correctly.  Yet, she always cherished her role as Treasurer.

Annie was preceded in death by her parents as mentioned above, sisters: Callie Marie Adams and Hattie Suggs; brothers: James O’Neal, Charlie H. Carter, William Perry “Bishop” Smith and Robert Lee Suggs; nephew, Jordan L. Adams, Jr. and brother in-law, Jordan L. Adams, Sr.


Memories will be cherished by devoted nieces: Sharon Suggs, of Nashville, TN, Sherhonda (Steve) Head, Acworth, GA, and Nachole Suggs, Marietta, GA and devoted nephew Brian (Chiquita) Suggs, of Madison, AL, host of other nieces and nephews, special caretaker/cousin Bruce Hamilton, other cousins, relatives and friends.
