Annie Watkins Obituary

Annie Margaret Watkins gained her heavenly wings on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at age 78. In heaven, Annie is walking around with her mother, Versie; father, Porter Sr.; brother, “Weak” Henry;
and two sisters, Charlsie and Sadie. Additionally, she has joined her two adopted brothers, Paul and Michael.

To say she will be missed is just a word to describe a reality that has hit us all. She left us too quickly and way too soon. Annie leaves to cherish her two sons, Ferle Orlando and Gregory Tyrone Watkins. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and inspiration which has touched the hearts of many.

Born on Wednesday, July 11, 1945, in Rogersville, Alabama, Annie possessed a warm, gentle nature from an early age that would become her hallmark throughout her life. She raised Ferle and Tyrone and instilled in them the values she held dear: compassion, integrity, and a deep appreciation for family.

Throughout her life, Annie had a passion for cooking and gardening. She was a chef at Turtle Point Yacht & Country Club in Killen, Alabama, for 25 years until retirement, where she shared her love and talent for cooking. All you had to do was drive past the house and you would frequently see Annie in her garden or sitting on her porch.

One thing that is true about Annie is that her warmth and giving heart extended beyond family, touching the lives of friends, neighbors, and family alike. She was a mother of the church and an active member of Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church where she worshipped and served faithfully.

Annie was a woman of remarkable strength and resilience, facing challenges with grace and an unwavering faith. Her spirit and determination inspired all who knew her, and her presence is already deeply missed. Goodbye to the many treats that we all had, especially her great smaller nieces and nephews, and the neighborhood kids became accustomed to enjoying anytime they saw or visited her. Lord, we know you hold the answers, but what will we do without our Annie?

There are some very special people in Annie’s life who she had a special affection and love for, including her two nieces, Luvenia and Denise; first cousin Peggy Haney Harris, Cousin Carla Hood and God granddaughter Carlia Hood.

In addition to her two loving sons, Ferle Orlando and Tyrone Watkins, both of Rogersville, AL, Annie is survived by her brother, Porter Watkins, Jr., of Rogersville, AL; three adopted brother, Robert (Lorraine) Watkins of Clarksville, TN, Minister Kerry (Glenda)Watkins of Rogersville, AL, and John Watkins of Rogersville, AL; adopted sisters, Luvenia Watkins of Nashville, TN, Denise (Reverend Lloyd) Watkins-Antoine of Eunice, LA, and Shelia (Tommy) Watkins Coffee of Rogersville, AL; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who are joining us in the loss of Annie.

May her beautiful soul rest in eternal peace and may the cherished memories of her love and giving heart bring comfort to Ferle, Tyrone, the family, and all who mourn her loss. As we mourn Annie’s death, let us also celebrate the profound impact she had on our lives and the memories we shared together. May her legacy of love and resilience continue to inspire us all in the days ahead.
