He departed this life Monday, Feb. 25, 2008.He confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined Mount Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Tuscumbia, Ala.Mr. Winston graduated from Deshler High School in 1977 after which he attended the University of North Alabama, graduating in 1982, where he received a bachelor's degree in vocal music and was a member of the UNA Collegiate Singers. Mr. Winston was the founder and director of UNA Ascending Voices and a member of the Music Educators Association. He was very devoted to all his accomplishments.Mr. Winston was well known and loved throughout the Shoals area. His many accomplishments are the following: member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity; founder and past director of the UNA Ascending Voices; founder of the local chapter, Twenty Distinguished Men of the Shoals; founder and director of the Quad Cities Mass Choir; president of the Trenholm High School Reunion 2006-07; director of the Trenholm High School Reunion Choir and the Legacy Choir since 1990.He was coordinator of the programming for the African Heritage Festival; minister of music, First Baptist Church, Sheffield; minister of music, First Baptist Church, Town Creek; minister of music, Mount Hope Baptist Church; minister of music, Mount Carmel Baptist Church; minister of music, Macedonia, Town Creek; choral director, Deshler High School; choral director, Muscle Shoals City Schools; member of the W.C. Handy Music Board; member of the Trenholm Alumni Executive Board; director of Miss Bronze Pageant (beauty pageant); director of Mr. Shoals Debonnaire; radio announcer, WZZA, Tuscumbia; radio announcer, WQLT, Florence; director and musician, Muscle Shoals District Baptist Association (Leighton Town Creek Chorus); music teacher, Lauderdale County Schools, Florence; member of Music Preservation Board; and latest employment, Muscle Shoals choral director.He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Russell Garfield Winston.Mr. Winston leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Beverly Houston Winston; two sons, Brandon Winston and Braxton Winston; a loving, devoted mother, Mrs. Lelia Moore Winston; one brother, James King, Tuscumbia, Ala.; two sisters, Annette Winston Daniel (Robert), Detroit, Mich., Donna Winston Johnson (Douglas), Tuscumbia, Ala.; two aunts, Louise Moore Clay, Tuscumbia, Ala., Nellie Moore Isabell, Detroit, Mich.; three devoted cousins, Sarah Clay, Tuscumbia, Ala., Barbara Jean Rhodes (John), Macon, Ga., Lula Young, Tuscumbia, Ala.; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Thompson and Son Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, Directing
