Edith "Carolyn" Crum, the tenth of eleven children, was born on December 27, 1943, to the late Percy Theo Thompson and Gracie Mae Harrison Thompson. On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, she peacefully gained her heavenly wings at her residence in Sheffield, AL.
Carolyn graduated from Reedtown High School in 1962, where she was an enthusiastic cheerleader. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Gaines Street Baptist Church in Russellville, AL. In 1963, she married the late Charles Henry Crum Sr., and in August 1964, they relocated to Newark, NJ, where they built a life together. Their union was blessed with nine children. In the summer of 1975, they returned to Sheffield, AL, where Carolyn became a devoted member of First Missionary Baptist Church.
Carolyn found immense joy in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She especially loved dancing and sharing laughter with them, creating cherished memories that will live on in their hearts. She was a woman of warmth and kindness, leaving a lasting impact on everyone she met. Throughout her professional career, she worked diligently at the Ramada Inn and Helen Keller Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Eric Lamont Crum, great-granddaughter Kaylan Ricks, and all of her siblings.
Carolyn leaves to cherish her memory her beloved children: Sondress "Cookie" Crum Langford of Atlanta, GA; Charles Crum Jr. (Jennifer) of Leighton, AL; Mike Crum (Thyrel) of Fairburn, GA; Nicole Crum Ingram (Terrence) of Tuscumbia, AL; Dawn Crum Wilson (Carl) of Huntsville, AL; Shannon Crum (Latarsha) of Sheffield, AL; Lykesha Crum of Sheffield, AL; and Quintin Crum of Jacksonville, FL. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law Rose Crum-Johnson of Suwanee GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will forever treasure her memory.
Carolyn's love, laughter, and unwavering spirit will never be forgotten. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and joy that will continue to inspire generations to come.
Rest in peace, Carolyn. Your love and light will forever shine in our hearts.
