Mrs. Ella Virginia Armstead Hillman, age 78, of Florence, Alabama, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her loved ones at North Alabama Medical Center.
Born on November 9, 1947, in Florence, Alabama, to the late Fred Armstead and Pearline Armstead, Ella lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service. She was a faithful and active member of Oak Grove AME Church where she accepted Christ at an early age and served on the Missionary Society, kitchen committee, stewardess board and the pastor’s aide board as treasurer. She enjoyed worship, fellowship, and service alongside her church family throughout the years.
Ella retired from Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital and was known for her warm heart, generous spirit, and unwavering devotion to her family. She found great joy in planting flowers, gardening, traveling, and creating lasting memories with those she loved. More than anything, she cherished time spent with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Armstead and Pearline Armstead; her beloved husband, Earnest Hillman; her son, Bradley Armstead; her daughter, Melodie “Jodie” Armstead; her sisters, Mary Barnett and Corrine White; and her brothers, Clifford Armstead, Oscar Armstead, Gary Armstead, and Donnie Armstead, Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted daughter-in-law, Clarissa Armstead; her brother, Fred (Stephanie) Armstead; her sisters, Margaret Thompson and Bessie Armstead; her grandchildren, LaKedra Armstead, Joshua (Allie) Simpson, and Mia Simpson; her cherished great-grandchildren, Aariyah, Heidi, Brady, Fallyn, Avery Kate, Adalynn, Malachi, and Londyn; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, church family, and dear friends.
