Ray felt strongly about his ministry with many. He wrote letters, and testified to anyone who would hear his words. He was dedicated to community service, delivering food and medicine to those in need. He was very concerned about the homeless and was making plans to find housing for them. He enjoyed writing letters about a myriad of topics, playing golf, buying and selling items, donating to the needy, and talking with his daughters. He traveled across the country, living and working in many places, and spending a great deal of time in Illinois.

He affiliated with several area churches through the years, and at one point, began his own ministry in Sheffield. At the time of his death, he claimed as his church home the Mt. Moriah P.B. Church.
