Eva Gordon Obituary

Eva Gordon was born July 4th, 1928, to Flynn and Esther Hamilton in Russellville, Alabama.

She received her formal education at Russellville High and was a star athlete on the women’s basketball team. After her High School studies, Eva moved to Akron, Ohio where she was united in Holy Matrimony with Richard Smith. Their union was blessed with one child, Gwendolyn Gordon. Shortly after her birth, they moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Eva had a longstanding career at Deaconess Hospital working as a dedicated employee in Central Supply. She worked closely with nurses, doctors, and surgeons throughout the hospital maintaining hospital supplies and inventory. She continued her career endeavors and was employed with Master Lock for several years retiring from her coveted position.

She enjoyed baking, conversing with family and friends, and always looking her best. Year after year, Eva enjoyed attending family reunions and celebrating Independence Day with her twin sister; dressed in her favorite outfits. Later in life, Eva returned to Russellville, Alabama, and ultimately settled in Atlanta, GA where she enjoyed the company of her daughter, Gwen, her grandson, Chad and his family, including her two great grandchildren, Kason and Sanaya. As she spent her last days with family, Eva experienced dementia and was unable to remember everything but did not forget what was most important, and that was her family. She was able to recall the names and faces of those closest to her and those memories will forever be cherished by family, especially her beloved daughter, Gwendolyn.

Eva Gordon departed this life on March 5, 2025.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Flynn and Esther Hamilton and four siblings: Lottie Jo Bellemy, Charles Hamilton Sr., Flynn Hamilton II, and Dave Hamilton.

She leaves to cherish her memory three sisters: Esther Hamilton, Gladys Bradley, and Lily Sangster; one daughter: Gwendolyn Gordon; one grandchild: Chad (Maritza) McClendon; and two great grandchildren: Kason McClendon and Sanaya McClendon; as well as a host of relatives and friends.
