With long life I will satisfy him and show my salvation. Psalm 91:16
God is faithful! He satisfied GAY ELIZABETH AGNEW with 93 years of prosperous life. She departed this earthy life on November 1, 2025. She loved solving crossword puzzles, word searches, and her “soaps.” She taught her children that dinner is not complete without dessert (vanilla ice cream was her favorite). Fun fact: Gay was an expert seamstress and hat designer. She leaves behind a legacy of love, Godly wisdom, and strength that will live on in all of us.
If you knew her, you knew her favorite scripture: Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Gay was educated in the Lauderdale County Public School system. She retired from K-mart with over 25 years of service.
She was a faithful member of Florence First Missionary Baptist Church. She was the past president but was currently serving as vice-president of the Mother’s Board. Gay was preceded in death by her father: James Frank Taylor, Sr.; mother and stepfather, Ulious and Beatrice Jones; two brothers: Henderson (Remus) and Otto Taylor, and two sisters: Sarah Robinson and Nettie Mae Anderson; and, last but not least, her favorite and one and only husband of 52 years, Jesse D. Agnew, Sr.
She will forever be in the hearts of her family: eight children, Gerard Agnew, Jesse Agnew, Jr., Vivian Highsmith, Linda Agnew, Janice (James) Cooper, Ulious (Alysia) Agnew, Fernando Agnew, and Tyrone (Shantae) Agnew; brother: James Frank Taylor, Jr.; devoted niece: Madgie B. Thompson; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Life is better with family and friends: an honorable mention to long-time friends, Betty Smith, Regina Brown, and Barbara Putman.
To God be the glory because he did great things for Gay Agnew. She leaves a legacy like no other! We praise God for you and your contribution to a better world; go get your well-deserved crown! You will forever be loved and missed!
