Pauline, as she was known to many, was born on January 15, 1937, in Mount Hope, Alabama. She was the third of seven children born to the late Luther and Ruby Hubbard.
Pauline departed this life as the final survivor of her initial family members on May 13, 2025, at Summit Rehabilitation Center in Florence, Alabama.
Pauline married Charlie H. Nelson on December 28, 1955. To their union, Ruby Margarett and Charlie Cartheal were born. The family thrived on their farm place in Russellville while enjoying their community relationships with extended family and friends.
Along the way; Pauline, who had accepted Christ at an early age, became a member of The Usher Board at First Baptist Church. She enjoyed her involvement in that role as it produced many fond memories for her.
Additionally, she was inspired by her involvements with The Small Black Farmers Organization, The Cattlemen’s Association, and The Widowers Club.
Pauline was an avid nature lover. She thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, where she tended to her flower, fruit, and vegetable gardens. When she wasn’t doing that, she dedicated her attention to watching and enjoying sports on television, always giving particular interest to her love of football.
Pauline was preceded in death by her husband Charlie, granddaughter Shannon Chavers Sylvain, sisters Hazel Abernathy, Lottie Hillman, Dora McGuire Tompkins, Beulah Mae Reynolds, and brothers Luther and Lanny Hubbard.
She was also preceded by her two brothers-in-law and their spouses; Silas and wife Carrie Nelson, and Arthur and Alberta Nelson. And finally, sister-in-law Arimenta and husband Emmitt Marshall.
Pauline will be fondly remembered by her daughter Ruby Margarett, husband John, and their son Bryan. They are joined by Pauline’s son Charlie Cartheal, wife Crystal, and their daughter Chara.
Finally, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends are left to remember and appreciate their memory of her personality and influence.
