James Fuqua Obituary

James (Jim) Fuqua, a beloved member of Rogersville, Alabama community, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on March 25, 1938, in Winchester, Tennessee, Jim lived a life marked by faith, dedication, and service to others.

Jim was a devout Christian and an active member of the Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church, in Rogersville, Alabama. His commitment to his faith was evident through his roles as a deacon, a choir member, and the chairman of the Grieving Committee. His compassion touched many lives, offering comfort and guidance to those in need. Jim’s early education was completed at East End High School, which laid the foundation for his lifelong dedication to community service. He was a proud and active member of the Center Star Lodge #25 F&M for over 20 years, where he found camaraderie and purpose among his fellow Masons.

In his personal life, Jim experienced the profound joys and sorrows that come with a long and full life. He was first married to Mary Louise King Fuqua who sadly preceded him in death in 1979. In 1999, he found love again and married Ellen Softley Fuqua who survives him and was a devoted partner throughout their years together.

Others who proceeded Jim in death was the late Margaret Fuqua (Mother) and Sim Fuqua Sr. (Dad) of Rogersville, Alabama. His beloved son Brian Keith Fuqua, Sisters, Mary Ellen Fuqua, Alice Fuqua Nance, Margaret Mangrum, and Dorothy Watkins, as well as brothers, Deloris Fuqua, Sim Fuqua, Jr., Robert Fuqua, Elisa Fuqua, and Herman Fuqua Sr.

Jim leaves to cherish his memory daughters Marilyn Jones, Lima, Ohio, Monica Denise Fuqua, Bessemer, Alabama, Charlotte Rena Liles, Tuscumbia, Alabama, Nygel (Mark) Goodloe Bush, Rogersville, Alabama, sons Anthony (Kessa) Todd Fuqua Sr., Powder Springs, Georgia, and Alle (Sadie) Torette Goodloe, Benson, North Carolina. Among his siblings are sisters, Marvelene Fuqua and Millie Ann Murphy, both of Buffalo, New York, and brothers Granderson (Monica) Fuqua of Buffalo, New York, Hudson (Dorothy) Fuqua, Wayne Fuqua all of Rogersville, Alabama. Eleven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
