Josephine “Jodie” Loveless Mignott

Some lives are remembered for what they accomplished. Others are remembered for how they made people feel. Josephine “Jodie” Loveless Mignott will be remembered for both. Through quiet strength, unwavering faith, impeccable grace, and an extraordinary love for her family, she built a life that reflected resilience, compassion, and dignity. On July 18, 2026, Jodie entered eternal rest, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her.

Jodie was born on July 14, 1958, in Florence, Alabama, to Louella Petty Loveless and Homer Loveless. At only two years old, she experienced the heartbreaking loss of her mother. She was lovingly raised by her sister, Sarah Shaw, whose care and guidance helped shape the woman Jodie would become. Growing up with humble beginnings, she learned early that perseverance, hard work, and faith could overcome life’s greatest challenges.

She attended Bradshaw High School before moving to Boston to live with her sister, Shirley, in search of greater opportunities. While there, she continued her education and began building a future defined not by where she started, but by what she was determined to achieve.

From an early age, Jodie had an unmistakable sense of style. Family affectionately described her as the family’s “fashion model.” Whether dressed for church, work, or a family gathering, she carried herself with elegance and confidence. She had an incredible eye for quality and was famous for finding beautiful clothing at remarkable bargains, often leaving people convinced she had spent far more than she actually had.

In the summer of 1977, while working as a receptionist at a driving school during a visit to Boston, Jodie met the love of her life, Dennis Mignott. Their connection was immediate. After she returned to Alabama, Dennis faithfully wrote her letters, each one carefully saved by Jodie throughout their life together. They were married on June 30, 1979, beginning a marriage built on love, friendship, mutual respect, and unwavering devotion.

Together they built a beautiful home and welcomed their beloved son, Maurice Mignott, who became the greatest joy of Jodie’s life. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother, and the heart of her home. She taught by example the importance of integrity, respect, hard work, responsibility, and carrying oneself with honor.

Jodie also possessed a remarkable gift for creating beauty wherever she lived. Friends and visitors often asked who had decorated her home, never realizing every room reflected her own creativity and impeccable taste. She kept an immaculate home that was warm, welcoming, and filled with love—a place where family always felt at peace.

Professionally, Jodie spent much of her career in retail financial operations, working for companies including Filene’s Basement, Network Solutions, Kohl’s, and Macy’s. She earned the respect of coworkers through her dependability, precision, honesty, and exceptional work ethic.

In 2005, Jodie and Dennis relocated to Orlando, Florida, where they enjoyed traveling, cruises, church, community events, and time with close friends. She especially loved returning home to Alabama, where family eagerly anticipated her visits. Those trips became treasured reunions filled with laughter, stories, and meals she loved, including meatloaf, fried okra, fried green tomatoes, pinto beans, cornbread, and Alabama’s famous smoked chicken with white sauce.

Jodie was an extraordinary cook whose meals brought family together. She mastered both Southern and Caribbean cooking, preparing favorites such as oxtail, stew chicken, spaghetti with her signature meat sauce, and homemade desserts, especially her beloved tea cakes and carrot cake. Her nieces and nephews fondly remember afternoons spent playing outside while she watched her favorite soap operas, knowing that good behavior was often rewarded with one of her famous tea cakes.

She also loved jazz, classic soul music, reading, museums, plays, art, traveling, and spending quiet evenings watching television with a bowl of popcorn. She appreciated life’s simple pleasures and found joy in sharing them with the people she loved.

Jodie’s life was defined not by the hardships she faced, but by the courage with which she faced them. She courageously battled breast cancer twice and later endured kidney disease with remarkable faith and determination. Even during her own health struggles, she remained positive, encouraging others to believe that hope, faith, and a positive attitude were essential to healing. After years of perseverance, she received the gift of a kidney transplant on March 13, 2026, embracing each day with gratitude.

Her strength never went unnoticed. Dennis’s parents, Hubert and Edris, welcomed Jodie into their family and embraced her as one of their own. Hubert affectionately called her “Miss Jobe,” after the biblical Job, because he admired the quiet faith, endurance, and perseverance she displayed through cancer, illness, and every challenge life placed before her.

Jodie and Edris shared a particularly close and loving bond. Edris became like a second mother to her, and their relationship grew into a treasured friendship that lasted throughout the years. They spoke on the telephone nearly every day, sharing their lives, laughter, advice, and companionship. They loved and respected one another deeply, and as Dennis often said, in Edris’s eyes, Jodie could do no wrong.

Above all else, Jodie loved her family. She never forgot where she came from, never lost sight of the importance of family, and never stopped making those around her feel loved. Whether through a home-cooked meal, thoughtful advice, a beautifully decorated home, or simply her comforting presence, she gave of herself freely and wholeheartedly.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Dennis Mignott; her beloved son, Maurice Mignott; her loving sisters, Sarah Shaw and Annie Pearl Sullivan; her cherished mother-in-law and dear friend, Edris; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, lifelong friends, and all whose lives were blessed by knowing her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louella Petty Loveless and Homer Loveless; her sisters Martha Stewart, Shirley Goodloe, Beverly Scott, Callie Goodloe, Queen Ester Rutland, Rosie Abernathy, and Louzena Barnett; her brothers Oscar Loveless, J.D. Loveless, Odell Loveless, Richard Loveless, and Homer Loveless Jr.; and her beloved father-in-law, Hubert.

From the hills of Alabama to the home she lovingly built with her family, Jodie’s journey was one of resilience, grace, and unwavering love. She taught those around her that strength is often quiet, kindness is never wasted, and family is life’s greatest blessing. Though she is no longer with us in body, the love she shared, the values she lived by, and the countless lives she touched ensure that her beautiful spirit will live on forever.
