Melissa Ingram Koger was born on December 25, 1962, to Curley Ingram and the late Jane Langham Ingram. Melissa had an exquisite, elegant, and classy spirit whose love, unwavering faith in God that touched everyone she came into contact with.
Melissa was baptized at Mt. Olive Presbyterian Church of Rogerville, Alabama, by Reverend Matthew Scruggs. She was a member of Galilee MB Church under the guidance of Pastor Jerry Reeves until her health declined. Melissa was a student of Brooks High School of Killen, Alabama.
She worked in the sewing industry at HD Lee Sewing Factory, Tennessee River, and Tee Jays until their closing. She decided to return to school to obtain her GED, and enrolled in Northwest Shoals to pursue nursing and graduated as an LPN. She started her nursing career at Mitchell Hollingsworth, then Heart Health Center and in August of 2018 started employment at Florence City schools as a school nurse at Harlan Elementary until she passed.
On February 19, 2026, Nurse Melissa Koger, after a short battle with illness, peacefully departed this life, leaving a legacy where she created a lasting and meaningful impact on the world, her community, values, and memories that will live on with her family and all who knew her.
She is now reunited with her mother, Jane Langham Ingram; brother, Derrick Ingram; nephew, William “Rod” Jones; and many more relatives.
She leaves her memories to her loving husband of 46 years, Marshall Lee Koger, Jr.; two daughters, LaKisha (Kejah) Millender and Alicia Koger; one son, Justin (Erica) Koger; special daughter who she helped raise, Markheia (LeAnthony) Swearegen; grandsons, Kedrian (Maya) Koger, William Johnson, Reginald Freeman, Jr., Nolen Millender, Greyson Swearegen, Makai Koger, and Camdyn Koger; granddaughters, KeAsia Freeman, Alyssa Freeman, Nyla Millender, and Makaiyah Smith; brothers, William (Gwendolyn) Jones, Curly D. (Jackie) Ingram, Dwight (Kim) Ingram; sister, Sandra Ingram; brother-in-law, Lloyd (Iris) Koger; sister-in-law, Earline Koger; aunt, Victoria Stevenson; special cousin, Estelle White Darden; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends
