Mr. Michael Fuqua was born on July 1, 1958, in Florence, Alabama, to the late Mr. Martz “Ted” Fuqua and Mrs. Jessie Lee Watkins Fuqua.
He peacefully took his wings on Monday, July 28, 2025. Mike accepted Christ at an early age and became a devoted member of Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
He actively participated in the life of the church—faithfully attending Sunday School, Wednesday night Bible Study, Sunday morning worship services, choir rehearsals, and various church activities. He deeply loved the Lord and lived a life grounded in faith and prayer. One of his most heartfelt prayers was asking the Lord to help him walk again. His unwavering belief and devotion were evident in all he did.
He shared a close and unbreakable bond with his brother, Connie. They spent countless hours reminiscing about their parents and older family members—laughing, storytelling, and keeping their family legacy alive. The two also enjoyed riding out together to pick up Mike’s favorite meal: fried chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, and a biscuit. Afterward, they’d settle in to watch his favorite show, Sanford and Son, which Mike watched faithfully. Mike had a deep love for his entire family, especially his nieces and nephews. He looked forward to their visits, conversations, and support. Their presence brought him joy, laughter, and comfort.
He was a true sports enthusiast; he enjoyed football and basketball. He was a familiar and beloved figure at Muscle Shoals girls’ basketball games, where he greeted everyone with a warm smile and friendly words. His seat was always at the front entrance, where he welcomed fans until the game began—and he never forgot to ask for his two hot dogs. Mike was known not just for his presence, but for his personality. He had a way with words, often using his signature phrases. When asked how he was feeling, he’d grin and reply, “Still here, ain’t I?” And in the face of challenges, he’d simply say, “Ain’t no harm about it.”
We extend our deepest gratitude to special friends and those who supported Mike with care and compassion: Deacon Darrell Howard—for faithfully cutting Mike’s hair year after year. Your dedication and kindness will always be remembered.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Evelyn Leigh Fuqua and Glenda Faye Edrington; and one brother, Milton Ray Fuqua.
Those left to cherish his memory include: one brother, Connie (Edith Gail) Fuqua of Rogersville, Alabama; sisters, Vera (the late Jessie) Simmons and April Fuqua, both of Rogersville; three aunts, Mrs. Jeanel (the late David) Haney of Killen, Alabama, Mrs. Willa Dean (the late Bobby L.) Jones of Town Creek, Alabama, and Constance Minor of New York, New York; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
