Nellie Mae Malone was born June 25, 1941, to the late Rufus Brown, Sr., and Eddie Mae Brown. She departed this life on August 14, 2025, at her residence in Florence, Alabama.
She attended Bethel Lauderdale School, West End, and Burrell Slater High Schools.
She was employed at Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital for 40 years when she retired.
Nellie accepted Christ at an early age and attended Bethel Lauderdale Missionary Baptist Church. She later attended St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Otis J. Malone, Sr., on October 28, 1959. To this union seven children were born.
Nellie is preceded in death by her husband Otis J. Malone, Sr.; parents, Rufus Brown, Sr., and Eddie Mae Brown; brother, Rufus Brown, Jr.; sisters, Veola Thompson, Mary Page, Marie Poole, Alice Thompson of Florence, Alabama, and Hanna Howard of Lima, Ohio; and one son, Otis J. Malone, Jr.
Nellie leaves to cherish her memory: five daughters, Brenda (Maurice) Davis of Maplewood, New Jersey, Anita Carroll of Covington, Georgia, Elaine (Larry) Softley of Tuscumbia, Alabama, and Angela Koger and Tangela Smith of Florence, Alabama. One son: Keith (Yvonda) Malone, Sr., of Clarksdale, Tennessee. Two sisters: Ruth (Wesley) Butler and Violene (George) Scott
of Florence, Alabama. One sister-in-law: Eddie Jean (Frederick) Rogers of Miami, Florida. Seventeen grandkids, fourteen great-grandkids, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
