Ora Kibler Appleberry Meredith was born on January 26, 1932, in Courtland, Alabama, to the late Rufus Appleberry and Ida Sanders Appleberry. On September 10, 2025, she peacefully departed this life and entered her eternal home.
Ora accepted Christ at an early age and became a faithful member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. Throughout the years, she served with devotion as a cherished member of the Mother’s Board, and in her younger days, as a vibrant voice in the church choir.
Her educational journey began in the Lawrence County school system. She later attended Sterling High School in Sheffield, Alabama and Trenholm High School in Tuscumbia, Alabama, where she was a majorette. Following her marriage to the love of her life, Oscar Meredith Jr., in 1947, and while raising their family, Ora pursued her dream of a career in nursing. She graduated from Calhoun Junior College as a Licensed Practical Nurse, later earning an associate degree from Northwest Junior College in Phil Campbell. She also furthered her studies at Florence State University.
In 1961, Ora became a proud Cub Scout Den Mother for Pack 113, a role she embraced with joy. She was also an active member of the VFW Auxiliary 8640 in Sheffield. With over 20 years of dedicated service, Ora retired as a nurse from ECM Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Oscar Meredith Jr.; her beloved parents, Rufus and Ida Appleberry; ten siblings; and her son, Charles Edward.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Oscar James Meredith (Anna, deceased) Tuscumbia, Alabama, Patsy Hawkins (Anthony) Huntsville, Alabama and Janis Harden (Samuel Jr.) Florence, Alabama; sister: Marylene Appleberry, Chattanooga, Tennessee; brothers: Eric Appleberry, Mark Appleberry, Tracy Appleberry, and Michael Appleberry, all from Chattanooga, Tennessee; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends
