On December 18, 2024, Richard Earl Williams took his daily walk- not on the streets of Florence, Alabama, but on the golden streetsof Heaven. Affectionately, known as Earl to his family and many friends, he was a popular citizen loved throughout the Shoals area.
Earl was always dressed up, smiling, extending greetings and a warm handshake to all he met. Earl was the oldest child and only son born to Joshua and Nina Eva (Smith) Williams on August 15, 1945. During his early years, he was nurtured by his mother and grandparents, “Chunk” and Josie Smith, while his father fought in the military in Europe during
World War II. Despite his limitations, Earl lived a full and fulfilling life.
He worked over 30 years at ECM Hospital. In retirement, he assisted at Thompson and Son Funeral Home. Earl also was a great socializer gaining a multitude of friends who became like family to him. This friendship was reciprocal... he loved them and they loved him. Likewise, his love for his family was beyond measure and special for his twin sisters, Jackie McCoo and Gwendolyn Oates who were his caregivers. Earl will be greatly missed!!!
At an early age, he gave his life to God and joined the Bethel Lauderdale Baptist Church. For more than 65 years, he attended his family church every Sunday except when illness prevented. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Celestine Skipworth.
As Earl now enjoys eternal life with his Lord and Savior, may he continue to walk around HEAVEN all day!!
A special thanks to the special people who were involved in Earl’s life. There are so many people who helped throughout his life, and we will forever be grateful for each of you.
