Robert “Bob” Butler, 91, was born on January 17, 1934, in Burnsville, Mississippi and ended his earthly journey on May 6, 2025.
Robert was raised in Tuscumbia, Alabama and spent most of his life there. He graduated from Trenholm High School with the class of 1953. After he graduated, he moved to Chicago and began working as a track laborer at Corn Products International. Extremely motivated and hardworking, his career progressed quickly, and he was promoted to a crane operator, brakeman, engineer, and, finally, conductor. After retirement, he returned to Tuscumbia and enjoyed livestock farming, crop production, and property refurbishment.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Shirley Buter; two daughters: Doris Reed and Bertha Reed; one son: Ronald Butler; two grandsons: Phillip Tate and Denzel Robinson; mother: Willie B. Payne; and grandparents: Owen and Irene Storment.
Robert will be deeply missed by his family to whom he was devoted. He is survived by his daughter: Britania (Larry) James; three sons: Robert Butler, Jr., Donald (Clarissa) McGee, Sr., and Carl Kellam; 14 grandchildren: Kennethia Little, Robert Butler, III, Connisha Butler, Tyrone Tate, Davon Moore, Michael Lee, Ronald Cassius Butler, Donald McGee, Jr., Taytyana Jones, Aziyah Harris, Britania Butler, Kane Butler, Jax James, and Brielle James; 27 great grandchildren; 20 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church.
