“Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:21
Shirley Marie Burt Suttle was born on December 24, 1939, in Sheffield, AL, to the late James Leon and Carolyn Burt. She peacefully entered into eternal rest on November 24, 2025, at Keller Landing Nursing Home.
At an early age, Shirley united with Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a faithful member of the mother’s board and usher board. She worked at Monarch Tile for 20 years and continued working until the age of 82.
Shirley was the heart of the family, the matriarch. Always present, praying and reminding us of who we were and where we came from, she embodied strength, grace, intention, and impeccable style. A classy God-fearing woman who carried herself with unmatched elegance. She will no doubt be one of the most stylish angels in Heaven right now. She was known for being strong, outspoken, and never afraid to stand her ground both literally and figuratively. She always marched to beat of her own drum in true Shirley-Marie fashion, yet beneath her toughness was a sweet, gentle, and loving spirit.
She always made you feel appreciated no matter how big or small the gesture. Her humor, warmth, and presence touched many lives, and she will be greatly missed. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; son, Cecil Suttle; and brothers, Robert Frank Burt, James Fredrick Burt, Charles Burt, Melvin Burt, and Leroy Burt.
She leaves to cherish her life: her three devoted children, Alex Suttle of Florence, AL, Jerneter (Willie) Garner of Muscle Shoals, AL, and Karen (Keith) Brasher of Nashville, TN; nine grandchildren, Tynesha Malone of Harvest, AL, Cordell (Yolanda) Turner of Fairburn, GA, Keyana Malone of Harvest, AL, Alex Suttle of Nashville, TN, Brittnie (Taylor) Legacy of Huntsville, AL, Brandon (Destiny) Brasher of Gastonia, NC, Courtney (Stanley) Jackson of Lawrenceville, GA, Keia Suttle of Nashville, TN, and Camesha Suttle of Florence, AL; nine great-grandchildren, Brailynn Legacy, Taylor Legacy II, Kyrie Suttle, Yuri Turner, Yara Turner, Yuna Turner, Luke Brasher, Christian Brasher, and Jace Jackson; her family also included her five brothers, Thomas Howard Burt, Glenn Hughes Burt, Ulysses (Janet) Burt, Emmitt Burt, and Michael (Jackie) Jarmon; very special sister-in-law, Shirley Burt; Shirley had numerous nieces and nephews whom she truly loved; and she is also survived by numerous cousins and friends.
Special thanks to her loving and dedicated caregivers, Cheryl Warren, Sandra Malone, Terina Perkins, and Bonnie Grant, for going above and beyond to ensure she had the best care.
