He was the third child, the "baby" after Mary Lucille and Majorie Ann, his older sisters.Walter attended elementary and high school at the revered Trenholm High School in Tuscumbia where he met his sweetheart, Peggy Ricks. They were married on January 5, 1965.Walter obeyed the gospel and was baptized by brother Arthur Horton at High Street Church of Christ in 1984.He was employed at Casey Harris Grocery, the Old Robbins Tire Company, the State of Alabama Beverage Company and the State of Illinois Beverage Store.Waiting across the Jordan to greet him were his parents and sister, Mary. He leaves to remember him fondly, his lifelong sweetheart, Peggy Ricks Barner; one son, Walter III, five daughters: Tina Barner Britt, Gina Barner, Yanna Barner York, Sheree Barner Reels and Jasmine Barner. Eight grandchildren: Troy, Edmond, Karim, Tiana, Rhycordia, Alexis, Olivia and Ethan; one sister, Marjorie (Earnest); nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friend, John Odell Darby.
